Imagine One is now hiring for a full-time,
*temporary position of Technical Writer which supports the US Navy at the Aircraft Carrier Planning Activity (CPA) at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth VA.  The CPA’s mission is to develop and execute aircraft carrier life cycle maintenance plans that enable the ships to achieve their 50-year design life. This position will last approximately six months.
 
The Technical Writer will develop a User Guide to support the deployment of a new software application known as Maintenance and Ship Work Planning (M&SWP 3.0).  This application is currently in testing with deployment planned in 2019.  It replaces several legacy applications, including the existing version of M&SWP, with a more capable tool supporting navy ship maintenance and modernization requirements.  The candidate must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and writing skills. 
 
Typical work requirements include:
The Technical Writer will create the M&SWP User Guide.  Requirements include but will not be limited to:
  • Meeting with application developers, testers and users to understand application functionality requirements.
  • Developing a document outline that addresses user requirements.
  • Organizing material and completing writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Presenting periodic progress reports and obtaining customer concurrence with format and content.
  • Reviewing materials and recommending revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
  • Selecting photographs, screen shots, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Assist in laying out material for publication.
 

Experience Requirements:
  • The candidate must have excellent writing skills and demonstrate proficiency in reviewing and editing technical documents.
  • Ability to write documents that capture engineering requirements, standard operating procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrate ability to navigate through a complex business software application, import screen shots into the User Guide, explain application menu options, develop process maps, understand how data is managed and displayed, etc.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products – especially Word and Visio software.
  • Basic understanding of ship system terminology.
 

 Educational Requirements: 
  • HS diploma.  Associate or BA is a plus.
 

Security Requirements:  
  • US citizenship
  • Secret clearance


Other:
  • *This is a temporary position lasting approximately 6 months
  • Out-of-area travel is not anticipated.  At the government’s discretion, some work may be performed at the contractor’s work site in Norfolk, Virginia
